JAMIE MORRISON, A BJJ Black Belt under 6 x World Champion, Robert Drysdale, Jamie has been training and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 1999, and is a regular competitor at a National and International level.
With ten years background in traditional martial arts including Toeke Jiu Jitsu, Bushi Kempo Jujitsu, and Kempo Karate, Jamie was impressed by the effectiveness of BJJ when he first saw it at a seminar presented by John Will at the club of the late Jan de Jong in Perth, Western Australia in 1996. At the time there was very limited instruction or qualified BJJ practitioners to learn from.
He first started training BJJ under Christian Thiele, a John Will blue belt in 1999. In 2001 and 2002, Jamie was living in Edinburgh, Scotland, and continued to train BJJ with Rick Young, a second degree BJJ black belt under Mestre Mauricio Gomes, while also having the opportunity to train regularly with members of the Scottish Judo team.
Returning to Perth in late 2002, he resumed BJJ with Christian. In 2003 Christian returned to Melbourne, and the club was taken over by Troy Flugge and Stacey Wilson, and the Submission Factory was formed.
A chance meeting with Taff Davies and Simon Smith at a Royce Gracie seminar at the Submission Factory introduced Jamie to the Beston Gracie West Coast club (later to become The Arena MMA) located close to his home.
In early 2008, Jamie started training at Beston Gracie West Coast, and in September 2012 was presented with his black belt by Taff Davies on behalf of Robert Drysdale, who was unable to be present at the time.
Dr. SIMON SMITH, has been practicing BJJ for over 10 years and is a dedicated Black Belt under Taff.
Simon began BJJ as a Clearance Diver in the Royal Australian Navy, where he served for ten years. He has competed successfully at both state and national levels in BJJ.
